The Monster
Everything I touch isn't dark enough
To be perfectly honest, Will hadn't known what to expect from the party. He knew Evangeline was an intense planner and she had monopolized the girls for the later part of the week. He'd tried to warn Cassidy about the obsessive behavior of his grandmother when it came to the perfect apparel of her family. The ladies had been designated with all red dresses in different styles while the gents were given the choice of a classic tux with a bow or a tie. Will had opted for the bow because it went better in his opinion, but he figured the tie was optional for Miles' sake. The poor kid didn't seem to know what formal attire was really like when he was older than an adolescent.
He was pleasantly surprised at Cassidy's ensemble, not that he'd been worried about his grandmother's taste. That and his girlfriend could easily pull off any look she chose. She was just that beautiful. Eva had tried to get her to make a grand entrance with Will as her escort and while it had gone flawlessly, he was happy to have the spotlight off of him. He just wanted to spend the night with his girlfriend enjoying the alcohol and the music and the very fact that he was in London.
After their entrance, he quickly pulled Cassidy over to the open bar and away from the invading eyes and impossible questions. "Alright, I think we're safe here for the moment. How'd you like that? Being introduced with a Spencer like you're some kind of royalty? She really goes all out with these things, I swear." Will laughed and rubbed the back of his neck before ordering to glasses of champagne to start with. "My family is insane."

With my feelings on fire
Guess I'm a bad liar
Being announced at a party was not something she was fond of. It reminded her of the time when her mother was still alive and she used to love fussing over Cassidy like she was a doll. It was cute when she was four years old but being an awkward eleven year old and being introduced to people who already knew her in some fancy frilly dress pretty much was not the shit.
Being twenty-four and fitted into a dress that hugged her in all the right places, however, was something she didn't quite mind. Especially when her escort was Will in a suit. He looked sharp and sleek and it was proving impossible not to be a squealing school girl.
She gripped Will's arm tight as they made their way through the attendees. She giggled when they finally got to the bar as she checked her boyfriend out. "You look so handsome." She said before accepting the champagne. "I'm not going to lie, I did feel like royalty but come on, I'm sure your grandmother's just happy everyone's under the same roof finally." She squeezed Will's arm and looked out at the partially crowded hall. "Did I tell you you look handsome?" She turned to Will and smiled, biting her lower lip. "Because you really look handsome."

The Monster
Everything I touch isn't dark enough
Will was trying really hard not to smile at her words because they were gushy and he didn't really do that kind of thing. It was different when he called her beautiful or whatever. He was allowed to do that. And he had been all week. Like his heart had been ready to explode out of his chest with how much it filled when he saw her every single day. And she was just making it worse with her boosting his ego every five seconds. Eventually his composure cracked and he flashed her a genuine smile, one that made rare appearances.
He brushed back a strand of her hair and lifted her chin up to look at him, "My eyes are up here, Angel. I will not be objectified by you any longer." He laughed and kissed her forehead. "But you, you look incredible. I told you that my grandmother had great taste." And he left out the fact that she'd micromanaged his own attire as well. William was fully capable of dressing himself, but Eva had made him show her before giving her approval.
The Hall was always in pristine condition and with it decorated, it reminded him of when he was young. Back when they'd all been under the same roof every year. Three people were missing, Landon and Moira, and while he knew that he didn't miss them, it was still difficult but also his grandfather. With Cal gone, it wasn't quite the same. He'd been the warmth, the soothing voice that could hardly be heard over the music, the one with the stories. James had taken it upon himself to try and take Cal's place, but Will could see the uneasiness that it still gave him. "I really wish you could have been here before everything was such a mess. My grandfather would have just loved you. Not that my family doesn't already, but he...he was the best person I've ever known."

With my feelings on fire
Guess I'm a bad liar
The smile on Will's face warmed Cassidy right up. It wasn't always that it made an appearance so when it did, Cassidy treasured them. She restrained from giving him a kiss, finding it super improper in present company. She would find the time later to.
She beamed when he complimented her back. "Your grandmother has exquisite taste. I don't want to give her back this dress." She ran a hand down the front of the dress, enjoying how smooth it felt under her touch.
Will's sudden quiet made her turn back to him with a curious look before a sympathetic look crossed her face. He rarely brought up his past willingly and hearing about his grandfather made her smile. She reached a hand out to his cheek, her thumb stroking his cheekbone. "That would have been great." She responded before leaning up and replacing her hand on his cheek with her lips briefly. "But I love the people you still have now. They're making me miss my family. Even my brother." She chuckled, sweeping all her hair over to one shoulder.
Taking a sip of her champagne, Cassidy inched closer to Will and slipped her fingers through his. "Dance with me?" She asked, looking up at him with a smile.

The Monster
Everything I touch isn't dark enough
He scrunched his nose up, "You realize she'd give it to you, right? I mean she basically calls you her honorary granddaughter already." Which had both delighted and panicked the hell out of him when she said it. Evangeline and James were not so subtle when it came to the fact that they'd been worried Will would never find a girlfriend. He was just glad that they loved the one he had as much as they did. "Actually she might be offended if you try to give it back."
Her lips pressed against his cheek and he could have just melted right there. The comfort she gave him was something he'd never felt before. It was like she calmed the beast that was usually so volatile inside him as well as the monster that he was without the lion. Will looked at her when she spoke and tried to pick apart what her family was like, even though he knew he wouldn't be able to. He took a drink of champagne and nodded, "I think I'm more nervous to meet your family than you were to meet mine." Which was the honest truth, he didn't know what he was walking into. Nor did he want to lead everyone on when his end was growing near. If they found out that he'd basically trapped their daughter in a relationship with no hope for a happy ending, he didn't think he'd ever be able to face her again.
Will's hands grasped hers when she laced her fingers through one. And while he was eager to spend as much time with her as he could, dancing did not sound very fun. Not while he was still very sober, "Dancing, aye? You know I don't really do that..."

With my feelings on fire
Guess I'm a bad liar
This trip had been such a whirlwind of love for Cassidy and if she were being completely honest, she didn't mind it at all. As much as her slip up about children at the beginning of the week had made her panic, Cassidy wanted to be a part of this family a lot more now than she did then. She of course hadn't told Will all this for fear that he would actually panic and leave. She knew it was too soon. They made big strides in their relationship quickly and if they didn't slow down, she was afraid something would break. But she couldn't stop herself from feeling happy because Will made her happy.
So did his family. They were inclusive and warm and made her feel like one of them almost immediately, was she really to blame for falling in love with them?
Cassidy paused in her thoughts to respond to Will's playful jab at his grandmother. "I should have tried on more dresses." She chuckled.
When Will mentioned her family, Cassidy shook her head. "Dad's a fair guy, you don't have to worry about him. Dylan's an asshole so his opinion doesn't even matter." She said in a matter-of-fact tone. "My opinion is all that matters and right now, you're my person. That's that." She gave Will a sweet smile and proceeded to drink her champagne.
Looking at him with a mischievous grin, Cassidy placed her champagne flute on the bar counter and nodded. "That's exactly why you should." She gave him a little cutesy pout before smiling widely. "Come on, please?"

The Monster
Everything I touch isn't dark enough
Will gave her a nod and rolled his eyes at her explanation, "I'll do my best to remember that, love." He couldn't help himself, just staring at her. She really did look good in her red dress and he could definitely see her in this lifestyle. Being spoiled and pampered frequently. That was honestly what he wanted for her and all he could do was hope that if after he was gone she would continue to be treated that way by his family. Will tucked her hair behind her ear and frowned.
But she expected him to dance. And he wasn't so sure about that.
Her face puckered in a pout and his brows furrowed, "Don't do that, that's not fair." Will tipped back his champagne and finished it, shaking his head when he set the glass back down on the counter. He stood up and kissed her forehead, "You are a monster and I'm going to regret this, but..." Will stepped back and offered her his hand. It couldn't be that bad right? Like at least he got to wrap his arms around her and keep her close without having to share with either of his siblings. "You're lucky ya know," If he didn't love her...man, he never would have done something quite so ridiculous.

Guess I'm a bad liar
Cassidy always felt a little vulnerable whenever Will stared at her. He had such an intense gaze that she could wither under. She liked that feeling so she usually hid behind something so Will wouldn't see her wide grins, this time it was her champagne flute.
She shivered slightly when he tucked her hair behind her ear and laughed when he responded to her pout. She hid her glee, biting her lower lip when he stood up and kissed her forehead, spreading warmth down her whole body.
"I know." She responded and practically skipped to the dance floor, kissing Will's knuckles before wrapping his arm around her waist while gripping the other to her chest. She used her free hand to reach up to his neck, her thumb dragging along his jaw as she smiled. "So are you, you know." She said as she looked up at him. "Your family adores you. Charlotte's warming up to you, but the rest of them...they all love you." A warm smile spread across her face. "This trip has been mushy for you, I get it but I can't help add to it either."

The Monster
Everything I touch isn't dark enough
She dragged him to the floor and he tried not to look excited about it. Honestly, it didn't take much because dancing was not his thing, but he liked that he was dancing with her. Cassidy wrapped his arm around her waist and he tightened it to bring her closer. He laced their fingers together on the hand he was holding and smiled down at her. "There, ya happy? You got me dancing."
When she reminded him of the things he had in his life now that he hadn't before, he sighed. He knew his family loved him and he knew that he didn't deserve it all that much. James was the only one who knew the whole story, he couldn't find it in himself to tell his grandmother, nor could he tell his siblings. His face scrunched up when she mentioned that his sister was warming up to him though because he didn't believe that. Perhaps Miles was, but Charlotte was still bitter and he couldn't blame her for it. "I wouldn't call that warming up to me, I'm almost positive she still hates me."
And Cas was right, it had been a mushy and emotional trip for him. Will didn't show it, but being around them all, having them all together after his grandfather had died...well it was safe to say he was glad he'd gotten the chance before he wasn't around anymore. But it also led him to wonder how long it was going to take them to get over his death, seeing as they all still felt the absence of Callum. Will brushed his lips against her lip briefly and rested his forehead against hers, "It wouldn't have been quite the same without you, I think. I know they're all really happy that I brought you, probably because they thought I was bound to be alone forever." He smirked and hugged her closer, "You're definitely my better half."

With my feelings on fire
Guess I'm a bad liar
When Will smiled down at her, Cassidy returned the smile with her own child-like grin. "I am." She responded cheekily. But it went beyond getting him to dance. She hadn't been this happy and content with her life for a while. Being around family, especially Will's family, made her feel at peace.
Rolling her eyes and snorting, Cassidy smacked Will's cheek lightly. "Weirder things have happened, Spencer. Three months ago, we hated the crap out of each other. Now look at us."
She gladly reciprocated the light brush of their lips and sighed contentedly, closing her eyes and enjoying their closeness. Her cheeks warmed considerably as she listened to Will speak. The man was made to talk, she had happily found out. It was no wonder they aced their project. Words just seem to come so naturally to the Spencer family. Even Miles who claimed to be hella awkward was a pretty smooth talker.
Cassidy rested her head on his shoulder and laughed quietly at his joke. "I love you." She mumbled into his shirt with a soft sigh.

The Monster

Will arched an eyebrow and grimaced, "Yeah, look at us now, you've turned me into a bloody marshmallow. I'll never be the same mysterious hottie I was before you." He nuzzled her cheek and squeezed her fingers. Not that he minded much. This was how he was supposed to be. How he'd started out before his world got shaken and flipped upside down. All of that hate and resentment he had built up over the years, he'd thought it ruined him and that he would never be anything more than that.
He supposed that their vacation, away from Montana, away from what was real, had really opened his eyes to what he could have had so much sooner. Of course he hadn't known her for a significant amount of time, but those months that he'd spent angry at her for no reason other than self-preservation, he could have been happy. Every moment that passed made him wish that he had met her sooner so that they could have longer. But the world worked in volatile ways and had given him everything he had been begging for only to take it away at any moment. Will rested his cheek against her head and sighed.
He was forced to lean down a little when she spoke, just so he caught what she was saying. And the words that came out of her mouth were both what he'd always wanted to hear and what he'd always distanced himself from. Coming from her, they made him panic for a moment because all he could think was that he was going to ruin her. But after a short beat he took a breath and laughed shortly, "God dammit, you beat me to it." He pulled back a bit to lift her chin up and he pressed his lips firmly to hers, whispering "I love you, too" against them.

Guess I'm a bad liar
Giggling at the mock misery Will displayed, Cassidy playfully bit his jaw when he nuzzled her cheek. "You were never mysterious, Will. Let's just get that straight." She teased him. "I can maybe probably attest to the hottie part. Gun to the head." Cassidy always thought Will was a lot more than his looks. The past months she'd spent getting to know him proved that. Now all she wanted to do was get to know more of him.
Her mumbling was not meant to be heard but when he responded, pulling her chin up, Cassidy's face flushed as they kissed. Her fingers curled around the front of Will's shirt as she heard him say those words back. She pulled him even closer as she deepened the kiss. She wasn't going to cry, she promised herself. There was no way she was going to cry just because a boy told her he loved her.
But Will wasn't just any boy, was he? He was the boy. The one she saw a future with. He loved her too.
Her heart raced in its cage as she hesitantly pulled back, suddenly very aware of the people around them. "Um..." she buried her face on his chest and chuckled to herself. "I don't...think we should be...let's get out of here." She finally looked up at Will, her eyes glistening with unshed tears.

The Monster
Everything I touch isn't dark enough
"That's a lie!" He pouted and narrowed his eyes at her. At least that was nothing new, their constant back and forth banter. It was a little watered down from what it started out as, but as he'd pointed out, she'd turned him soft. He couldn't quite think of anything harsh to say to her now. Even then it had been difficult because he'd hated seeing her get so upset or angry or both. Will kissed her forehead and sighed, "That hurts, love."
When she pulled him down to her level, he tightened his arm around her waist and let his free hand reach up to the back of her neck. He wasn't quite prepared for the sudden eagerness, sure they'd made out countless times, but there were a lot of people around now. A lot of people that knew him a lot better than anyone in America could ever know him. If his grandmother saw, god he could only imagine. Or James. James would give him such a hard time. But his thoughts were starting to smash together and blur and he couldn't really focus on much else. He'd just told her he loved her. The L word hardly ever escaped his lips in that context. Not even with his own family. Not seriously.
She pulled back and he laughed, "Yeah, it's a bit crowded in here for that, wouldn't you agree?" He kissed the top of her head and cupped her cheek when she looked back up at him. She wanted to leave the party and his stomach clenched uncomfortably. Did that mean she wanted air? Or a room? The panic he'd felt before started gnawing at him and he wasn't sure what he should say. He didn't want to assume anything. "There's uh, there's plenty of rooms and stuff we could check out? Or a library? Where do you want to go, Angel?"

With my feelings on fire
Guess I'm a bad liar
The corners of Cassidy's eyes crinkled as she laughed at Will's reactions. "Aww, where does it hurt? Lemme kiss your boo boos away." She teased.
Cassidy shouldn't have given into her desires, at least not as much as she did, in public. Especially not in present company. She was brought up in this kind of society, she should have known better. Then again, she never really did like the strict code of conduct.
Will's teasing made her laugh as she blinked away the tears. This was not the time to make her emotions so bare anyway. "Anywhere away from prying eyes." She said, smiling at his nickname for her. She didn't think it would ever wear out.
She took Will's hand and tugged it as she started to walk out of the hall. Her heart was hammering against her ribcage. She didn't have much expectations about what could possibly happen but she did have a little bubble of hope that they would advance their relationship. There were so many emotions built up in her that she wanted to express to him that didn't involve words.
She didn't quite catch the awkwardness coming from Will, but then again, he was quite good at playing it off usually. But right at that moment, all Cassidy wanted to do was to get away from the judging eyes.

The Monster
Everything I touch isn't dark enough
Will didn't hesitate in following her, but he definitely didn't know what he should be thinking. This was his grandparents' house, would she really do something like that here? He wasn't sure he could, it was kind of terrifying to even imagine his family being just down the hall while he was somewhere with Cassidy...doing something he didn't know if he was quite ready for. Was she that ready? They hadn't even liked each other all that long. Maybe that was okay though, maybe the passion had stemmed from their beginning hatred of each other.
His stomach twisted uncomfortably and he took a quick glance over his shoulder to see if anyone was watching them leave. Miles was nowhere to be seen, neither was Charlotte. Evangeline was talking to someone that he couldn't recognize and just as they were crossing the threshold, he caught James' eye. His uncle narrowed his gaze, but otherwise, his expression didn't change. Will now was worried that he'd be hearing about this later. As long as James didn't let anything slip to the matriarch, he was pretty sure that it wouldn't be the end of the world.
While they were in the hallway, Will tightened his grip on her hand, but kept his eyes cast away, glancing around distracted. "Feel better?" He asked, giving her a side glance.
